Piano Trio Recital with Soteria Ensemble on February 9th at 7.30pm at Jordanhill Parish Church, 28 Woodend Drive, G13 1QT.

Mendelssohn was a very successful composer, conductor and pianist, while Clara Schumann was coming out of the shadows as a female composer. She had a rich career as a pianist, however, it took slightly longer time for her compositions to be appreciated. Felix had spent lots of time with Clara and encouraged her to compose more, even offering to conduct the premiere of her piano concerto. Mendelssohn Piano Trio in D minor no. 1 is, if I may say... grande! It is an incredible piece of art, with virtuosity, excitement and drama in each movement. Clara's piano trio in G minor was however her first attempt to write for different instruments than voice and piano. This does not mean her work is not equally genius... quite opposite! It's a slightly different style of writing and in parts more uncomfortable to play, but what a gentle and beautiful pearl in chamber music repertoire...

Come along to support our ensemble and see you soon. As always, we have a surprise piece at the end...

Presenting a diverse selection of pieces (Ravel, Wieniawski, Piazzola, Gershwin...), Fay and Edyta delve into the realms of music from France, Poland, Argentina, the U.S.A and beyond. Weaving narrative lines around the sound of the violin and the piano, the program is an experience of the evocative power of music. Sounds turn into colours and imaginary landscapes take the shape of a melody. We approach the insight of a composer’s mind and a sudden change in the music becomes a turning point in a character’s life.

Christmas Tour -Women In Chamber Music

We are thrilled to share that we will be touring with our own adaptation of Tchaikovsky's 'The Nutcracker' in December, a full concert featuring the classic ballet orchestral suite and timeless Christmas pieces!

This arrangement is for viola, cello, oboe, harp and four-handed piano, written by Edyta Mydlowska and Jole Kosonen ! This exciting project has each instrument playing unusual parts and sound effects, it's so much fun for us, and we can't wait to share this with you. And in true WICM style, the second half of the concert will feature smaller chamber ensembles performing all your Christmas favourites, with arrangements by Jole Kosonen and Sam McAdam !

At each one of these concerts, WICM will be running a toy drive for Glasgow Women's Aid. This time of year can be very difficult on women and children who are sheltering, and so we want to help these families in any way that we can.

We will be performing this concert in Helensburgh, Bothwell (Greater Glasgow), and Oban!
